Matt & Naomi
Meet Matt and his ADA-compliant service dog graduate from Hero's Puppy for Life, Naomi. Here's what Matt says about having Naomi in his life. "Having Naomi as a service dog has been a complete blessing in my life. She is so in tune with me and can anticipate just the right moments in which I need her help, and she is right there. Going into high-anxiety situations is not a fearful and scary process with her by my side.
Thank you Hero’s Puppy for Life,
".for giving me that back in my life."
Bernie & Raphael
Here's what Bernie has to say about Rafe, "Raphael, AKA “Rafe,” has been a constant companion since day one. He has enabled me to socialize in public, eat at restaurants, travel in airplanes, snow ski, and train in martial arts again. He found my cancer 5 months before the doctors. Rafe not only helps with PTSD-related issues but is able to assist with mobility issues and seek help in a medical emergency. Rafe always knows when I need his help, like deep pressure therapy or when to force himself between me and the irritating news I am reading on my iPad. I cannot imagine a day without him in it.".
Tori & Luna
Meet "Luna." Luna is a sweet Chocolate Lab. She was donated by a breeder from New Mexico, and on Puppy Pick-Up Day, she went home with her HPFL Recipient, Tori. Luna has the distinction of having a high-ranking U.S. Space Force General stop to greet her while the rest of the 400-person-plus audience whom he was to speak to was standing at attention as he entered. Here's what Tori writes about Luna.
"She grew from a timid, sweet girl to a confident and brave guardian and loyal soulmate. Luna reads me like no one else. And never takes her eyes off me and never ceases to entertain and love, even on the darkest days. She is my shadow and helps me sleep at night. She always has my six, and I only pray I am worthy of her and the consistent love and comfort she provides. She enriches my life and all who we cross paths with. A true treasure and gift!"
Dave & Velvet
Meet one of our Service Dog graduates, Velvet, and her recipient, Dave. Dave, a retired sheriff's deputy, says this about Velvet: "Velvet has changed my life from day one. She is my rock when I need it. I had a hard time going out in public. Now I can with her help. I have had her now for almost 4 years. She can anticipate what I need and if there are any problems and she tells on me when I have problems. She is more than a service dog, she is my best friend. I don't know how I would live with my PTSD without her. She keeps me grounded which makes it easier to enjoy life. Without HPFL and Frank. I don't know where I would be today."
Andrew & Pearl
Meet our recipient Andrew and Pearl, a graduate of Hero's Puppy for Life Organization's Service Dog Training. Here's what Andrew says about having Pearl in his life:
"Pearl came to me at a time when I was just beginning to get help for PTSD from my time in Afghanistan, which took me over 5 years to confront. The training and bonding process was a lot of work for both of us, but we built a special connection. She learned my triggers and even learned to come comfort me before I knew I was starting to become anxious, particularly at night. She is now a very important part of our entire family and is known throughout our whole neighborhood too!"
Leonard and PFC Hudson
Before Hudson came into my life, I was distancing myself from most everybody. I just wanted to go to work, finish my day, and go home. When my coworkers would gather for events or holidays, I would politely turn it down and come up with an excuse why I couldn't go. Since Hudson came into my life. I have started becoming more sociable again. I do not feel as on edge when in groups. He has helped me open doors, be comfortable around people again, and get back outdoors. Everywhere we go, people comment on how beautiful he is and how well-behaved he is. He's kind of forced me to interact with more people, and this has really helped me get back a part of my old life.
Troy & Gunnar
Gunnar is more than a service animal. He is my best friend. He allows me to keep calm when my emotions are in turmoil. He allows me to be strong when I feel defeated. He is also the jokester when I need my spirits lifted. Gunnar is the best friend I needed when I was at my lowest and needed someone to listen to me
CeeJay & Cricket
Before I met Cricket I was too afraid to leave my house by myself and I was in so much pain that I couldn't care about other people even if I wanted to. Now me and Cricket go on adventures all over the place and I have very many friends that I care about very much. All because of my superhero Jiminy Cricket Maxwell!!!
